Dear art lovers,

I am excited to take you into my story.

Artist "Xu Lemm"

Kurt Lemmens

Born in Leuven, Belgium 1970

After many years of running a successful business in food, I felt the need to change direction. Art had always been my passion for over a decade. The flame really caught fire with works by @Murakami, later on @Koons, @Kaws, and @Klibansky, among others.

I chose to follow my heart and embrace the style I love, one that tells a story. My Passion.

Today, I am excited to introduce two of my first sculptures. The surrealistic, cartoonesque sculptures of Xu Lemm invite you to meditate on life's riddles.

"Gnoti Seauton"

The Reflection of Self-Will

In the essence of "Gnoti Seauton" lies the call
to know ourselves, but this goes deeper than
mere self-awareness.
It includes recognizing our
inherent free will to choose
our own path without being limited
by our background or external influences.

A work of art that embodies this principle
is a sculpture looking at itself. This image symbolizes
the power of introspection and the reflection of our own will.
It reminds us that self-knowledge begins with understanding
our capacity to shape our lives the way we want.

By becoming aware of our own free will,
we free ourselves from the shackles of the past
and open the door to a future full of possibilities.
Knowing ourselves means not only understanding
who we are, but also embracing who we can become,
free of limitations and confident in our capacity to determine our own destiny.

"Manga Obscura"

Appeared as an idea in a moment of adversity. During nocturnal wandering as often happens. 'Obscura' means 'dark', enclosed, closed off, without light... Everyone has a dark side, deep inside. Keeping desires and associated thoughts hidden, shielded by a hood so as not to be recognized by the outside world.

The middle finger raised as a sign of rebellion and protest against that which does not feel right. Trivial issues seen as problems, or fundamental issues such as the question, Is power right?

"Manga Obscura" is a symbol and portrayal of a blind force of which man is unaware, and which is present in his subconscious as desire-matter present. As the driving force of a pattern of thought based on the urge for self-preservation, selfishness, fanaticism, destruction, rebellion, disease and everything known as evil.

A Glimpse into My Artistic Process

I always begin my creative journey with a sketch, envisioning my next work.
Once I have a clear image, I immerse myself in my studio,
sculpting the piece in clay.
This process is incredibly calming for me, and I often lose track of time.
After completing the clay sculpture,
I scan it and make slight edits on the computer to
prepare it for the bronze foundry.
